QUAZARE - Gone To A Place Where There's No Return... Or Is There?...
PICTURES:
The pictures below show the "Quazare" on the top of a keyboard stand. It's a previous version of the quazare. The new one is sill being built. I will post it as soon as it is done.
THE RECORDING PROJECT:
I recorded it with a friend about 12-13 years ago. It was a evening of music. Lots of fun. This was a 100% improvisational night. WE KNEW NOTHING about what we were goin to preform. We plugged the computer's cheapest sound card. We used the 1/8" jacks. Plugged in the "2 track" audio input, and just played.
During the recording I played the 2 (3) modules that I made all during the recording. They are the "blue" modules. They're down the page in the pictures. They are called "The Harmotron" and "The SuperSweep".
They are really cool as I have put some functions which you don't find anywhere. They're listed on the sheet next to the pots. It's complicated to explain the functions... But I'll do my best when I'll try to go in great details when I list them (hopefully soon)... Maybe I'll put a web page with the details. I have them with the schematics in case someone would like to build one (or both).
All the modules I built, and the modules I have purchased, fit in a "cheap" suitcase I got at the local hardware store. That is what I had in mind at the time. Now with my accident I will "try" to build (with 1 functional arm) a better case. I got a plan actually. The trick is to not drill a single hole (ideally). The trick is... MAGNETS!!! All the holes will be replaced with magnets. No holes to drill, and things "line up" perfectly, by themselves. Put a bit of glue on the magnets, and it is brilliant! Except... You all of a sudden begin to attract all metal "parts"... So I'll have to figure how I will deal with that... But that remains to be seen...
OK so... When the night was finished, I took the sound files (single 2 track about 1 1/2 hour long). And I looked around the net for the best NASA flights that I could find, and that could best describe what I was feeling at the time.
It took me about 7 days to complete the mix. After that, I lost the audio, imagine that! But, it was on my iPod, for which I completely forgot that I changed my email address, it was too late. To many tries, and it was now "locked". No way to get it, EXCEPT... I plugged it in my speakers, and It played the songs one after the other. So I got all the wires and, BINGO, I NOW HAVE THE SONG! 13 years later, I finally got it!!! It was making me regretting not having a security backup. But it's OK now, I got it finally!
THE DRUM SOLO:
There is a drum part that I play on the track. It's me playing on the lake at my dads (see below). I played a song about me passing thru the Asteroid Belt. I think it makes a good point on how I was feelin that day...
I also play the old quazare all the way thru the drum solo. With me letting completely loose, letting the "vibes" control me... After I finished the drum part I just let it go...
THE VOYAGE:
It starts with something that... Well I will let you decide what the "thing" was. Very freaky.
The voyage was a first step in a series of "The Final Flight" with the crew. Maybe, just maybe, they will find a solution to "miraculously" find their way back home. But, that remains to be seen...
I also played The SuperSweep in my tracks. You could hear it in "Paroxian", among others. It also features a TV input. I find this track really really excellent actually. It's probably my favourite song on the album. You can really hear the "SuperSweep" doing it's thing all along.
My big drum set (Roland TD-7). And whatever I would bring (Synthesizer Roland JP8000). My role was to include melodies in the songs. (don't worry I can not play, only 2-3 melodies, and that is it [- all the errors if I decided to try something "different"]).
My partner used all kinds of stuff that he would synchronize to a beat. He used different electronic equipment. I was in electronics (among tons of other stuff), and he was in IT. Together we made freaky music. We'd jammed for a few hours, and I brought the 2 track mixer and I spent many many hours listening and selecting the musical tracks that would become part of the CD. I had a lot of fun using a lot of different techniques. From the reverse audio, to the insane, well... It's all there.

That with "Alone in a Big Empty Room Thinking About Where the Universe Ends" which I must warn you about... Well... Hummm...
Another is "We Copy you Valley, Over". This is a bit odd actually. Well first you should know that the songs are quite different. ITS ALL WERID. which I love. It was a mix that I did, and let I let the magic flow... It was fun.
"Flat Liner" is another song that I mixed. This one is quite special. It has a TV INPUT. I played with TV audio. And a big mix.
All others can is there for you to enjoy.
You'll see that we were experimenting with LAZERS. We had a bunch of Lazers that we would clip to the ceiling on my fan at home, (3-5). He had a mirror that was in the bottom of a speaker. We played with the Oscillator going to the amp, and experimented. His modules played something, and on a separate cannel he fed a signal to the amp, and then the speakers. You'll see on the pics how crazy it was.
Over all, I'm really satisfied with the way it sounds, But there is no guarantee that it would be of you're liking. But I'm someone out the will like it... I think...
